Efrem Korngold, OMD, LAc
Efrem Korngold is a pioneer in the education and practice of Chinese medicine in the West. He is co-author of Between Heaven and Earth: A Guide to Chinese Medicine as well as journal articles and chapters in books.
After initial training in England in 1972, Korngold studied Chinese herbal medicine in Kunming in 1980 and acupuncture in Shanghai in 1984. His study of herbal medicine continued with Doctor Fang Feng, a Vietnamese-born Chinese herbal physician in San Francisco. These studies engendered original ideas about how to simplify traditional Chinese acupuncture and herbal therapeutics for American providers and patients. He has collaborated with neurodevelopmental pediatrician Stephen Cowan for 20 years in developing original perspectives on embryology and early childhood development.
With more than 40 years of experience, Korngold has developed a unique model that blends ancient and modern knowledge. In 1974 Korngold taught med students from University of California San Francisco School of Medicine. In 1979 he developed one of the first formal, accredited acupuncture curricula in America for the San Francisco College of Acupuncture, training several hundred acupuncturists over eight years. Between Heaven and Earth, published in 1991, has found its way into more than 250,000 hands and has been translated into eight languages.
Korngold maintains an active practice in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine at Chinese Medicine Works in San Francisco, California.www.chinesemedicineworks.com
