Abstract: This lecture will describe the key components of cancer according to Chinese medicine (Qi and Blood stasis, phlegm, fire toxin + underlying Zheng Qi xu) and then explore these categories giving examples of the kinds of herbs we would use to help address these pathologies. The aim of the lecture is to explore CHM treatment strategies that can be adjusted and developed according to the requirements of an individualized care plan to support people living with cancer.

Learning Objectives:

  1. gain an understanding of the common pathological processes underlying many cancers according to TCM theory
  2. review key categories and individual herbs used in the treatment of cancer
  3. learn how to combine these various aspects of treatment into a person-specific formula that can be adjusted over time
  4. discuss some of the strengths and limitations of CHM as applied during different phases of living with cancer.
